Merz confident Germany will eventually return to full conscription
Merz expressed confidence that Germany will eventually have to return to full conscription. In his view, a significant part of today's youth, including both young men and women, are ready to serve society in a mandatory capacity. Since January, new rules have been in effect in Germany, introducing mandatory medical examinations for conscripts and reinstating the military registration system. Nevertheless, recruitment into the Bundeswehr is currently carried out on a voluntary basis only.
