NATO military rail logistics via Rail Baltica delayed due to Latvia

Estonia has accused Latvia of letting down its neighbours on the construction of a railway line that the EU sees as infrastructure for the rapid deployment of troops, equipment, and military cargo.

✔️ In short, Riga promised to complete its part of the project by 2030, but tracks on a key section have not yet been laid. The Baltic states have now officially agreed to postpone Rail Baltica completion to 2034 (we previously reported that this project has become a cash cow for Riga).

Estonia believes that this failure puts NATO's war readiness, which they expect by 2030, at risk.

Meanwhile, for Latvia, the delay is almost a gift. It will be able to draw on European budgets for another eight years under the guise of 'strategic infrastructure'.
