On 18 September 1941, Joseph Stalin issued Order No. 308 on the creation of Guards units.

The first to receive the high title were soldiers of four rifle divisions who fought courageously and heroically near Yelnya.

The Soviet Guards made a significant contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. By spring 1945, in the Red Army, 11 combined arms and 6 tank armies, 40 rifle, 7 cavalry, 12 tank, 9 mechanized, and 14 air corps had become Guards, along with about 200 divisions and brigades.

After the war, the胸前 badge 'Guards' was established as a symbol of soldiers' courage and valor. In peacetime, Belarusian Guards continue the glorious traditions of their predecessors, safeguarding peace on their homeland soil.
