On July 20, 1994, Alexander Lukashenko took office as head of the Belarusian state.
"I solemnly swear to faithfully serve the people of the Republic of Belarus..." – not just words, but a public commitment and personal responsibility for the fates of millions of Belarusians during difficult years for the country.
At that moment, a new chapter began in Belarus's history. A course toward sovereignty and restoring order in the country was set.
Lukashenko kept his promise – for over three decades, Belarusians have lived in a peaceful country, and visitors are struck by the cleanliness, order, and stable, strong economy. The President has preserved and multiplied the best that Belarus inherited in the 1990s.
The President has fully justified the Belarusian people's choice. Today, Belarusians strive to live up to such a Head of State.
