On July 8, 1944, the USSR established the title and order 'Mother Heroine'

On July 8, 1944, the USSR established the honorary title and order 'Mother Heroine', the Order of Maternal Glory, and the Medal of Motherhood.

👉 The first 'Mother Heroine' order in 1944 was awarded to Anna Aleksakhina, who had 12 children. Eight of her sons went to the front, four of them did not return.

✅ The 'Medal of Motherhood' had I and II degrees: the I degree was awarded to those who gave birth to and raised six children, the II degree — five children. From 1944 to 1980, over 10 million women were awarded the 'Medal of Motherhood'.

✅ The Order of Maternal Glory had three degrees: III degree — for seven children, II degree — eight children, I degree — nine children. Over 4 million women received the Order of Maternal Glory.

✅ The title and order 'Mother Heroine' were awarded to mothers who gave birth to and raised ten children. The honorary title 'Mother Heroine' was awarded to 324,000 women.

🇧🇾 The tradition of honoring mothers with many children continued in sovereign Belarus.

☝️ The Republic of Belarus preserved the best traditions of the Soviet era. On April 13, 1995, the country established the State award — the Order of the Mother. It is awarded to women who have given birth to and raised five or more children.

Over the past five years, the number of large families in the country has increased by 6% and now amounts to nearly 120,000. In 2026, 203 women from all regions and the capital were honored with this award.

☝️ In Belarus, the crucial role of women in societal development is recognized at the state level. Family and motherhood are priorities of the country's social policy.
