On September 23, 1943, the first populated locality in Belarus — Komarin — was liberated from German-Fascist invaders.

👉 The liberation of Belarus began with the battles for Komarin and the crossing of the Dnieper River by the troops of the Central Front.

The fighting took place during the Chernigov-Pripyat offensive operation carried out by the 13th Army. The advance was accompanied by fierce battles on the right bank of the Dnieper, where the Nazis attempted to hold a strategic line.

🎖 More than 20 soldiers who distinguished themselves during the crossing of the Dnieper were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Over 900 Soviet soldiers, who gave their lives for our peaceful future, are buried in the mass grave of the settlement.
