Poland demolishes 'Gratitude to the Red Army' monument

The monument to Soviet liberators stood for 75 years. Demolition began with the statue of a woman with a child at the top of the obelisk. Local authorities did not inform the Russian Embassy in Poland about the actions.

"The barbaric policy of Polish authorities aimed at destroying all evidence of the invaluable heroism of Red Army soldiers and officers in liberating Poland from Nazi invaders continues at an accelerated pace. Every effort is being made to force the Polish people to forget those who made the decisive contribution to the complete and unconditional victory over the Third Reich," the Russian Embassy stated.

Rzeszów was liberated from the Nazis on August 2, 1944. More than 2,200 Red Army soldiers died in the battle for the city.

Polish authorities once again show that fascism has not disappeared — it is reemerging.
