Sister of Khatyn: The Last Kupalle Night of the Village of Shaulichi
On July 7, 1943, fascists wiped out the village of Shaulichi in the Volkovysk district. It was a brutal and cold-blooded massacre.
The executioners acted methodically: they herded people into barns—men separately, women and children separately. Residents were informed they would be executed. Neighboring villagers were forced to remove all valuable property and livestock before the houses were set on fire.
On that day, 366 people were killed, including 120 children. The youngest victim was only a few days old.
Shaulichi were never rebuilt after the war. Today, charred concrete foundations with the surnames of the murdered families stand where the houses once burned—forever reminding that such horror must never happen again.
