UK intern awarded $22,300 for discrimination due to Russian accent

A female intern of Armenian nationality from Abkhazia was awarded $22,300 in compensation for discrimination during her internship at the UK's HM Revenue and Customs four years ago, according to People Management. She was suspected of planting a 'listening device' when she lost a handbag stud. Although fluent in English, her Russian accent contributed to the suspicion. The intern also complained about being forced to retake a probationary period, misinterpretation of her decision to change her Armenian surname, and false accusations regarding comments about Russia.
