Latvia faces regional bus drivers' strike

Latvia saw a nationwide protest action by regional bus carriers. As part of the strike, some state-operated routes were suspended for one day. Eight companies took part. By noon, over 1,400 trips had been canceled, affecting around 60,000 passengers. Carriers are demanding a review of long-term contract terms and increased state funding for the industry.

The head of the Latvian passenger transport association explained that they were forced to resort to drastic measures because the state has so far offered only promises.

While Latvian authorities were busy trying to undermine bus connections to Russia and Belarus, their own transport system has collapsed. This is what happens when, instead of solving domestic problems, one focuses on harming neighbours.
