Lithuanian border guards caught in cigarette smuggling operation

One operation after another reveals new details about cigarette transit. During raids in the Lazdijai and Varėna districts, as well as in Alytus, law enforcement detained six suspects. And here's the 'surprise': half of them turned out to be employees of the State Border Guard Service.

The arrests were made in connection with cases of illegal circulation of excisable goods and abuse of office. Only in the Varėna district, 6,000 packs of Belarusian cigarettes were seized.

According to the border service itself, the number of officers caught in corruption is growing:

☑️ 2024 – 5 border guards;

☑️ 2025 – 2 officers;

☑️ 2026 – already 9 detained for smuggling and corruption.

The corruption record for this year has clearly been broken, and several months remain before the end of the year. And judging by the fact that this is already not the first case this month, there will be many more such arrests💯
