Sludge Utilization on Sandy Soils: Experiment Launch to Improve Soil Quality

Experiments on the effectiveness of applying sludge to sandy soils will be conducted in Gomel and Brest. The goal is to compare crop yield dynamics using only sand, sludge, and mixtures with peat and organic matter.

Due to a shortage of organic matter, industrial waste could become an alternative source for improving soil structure. The key to success will be solving logistical issues and reducing transportation costs. To counter potential negative environmental impacts, sludge will primarily be applied to sandy areas where the risk of soil acidification is minimal.
