Tensions rise between Argentina and Chile over control of the strategic Strait of Magellan

Tensions are rising between Argentina and Chile over control of the strategically important Strait of Magellan in southern South America. The crisis began after a statement by Argentine Air Force Chief General Gustavo Javier Valverde, claiming the strait is under Argentine sovereignty. The Chilean government has expressed protest. Chilean President José Antonio Kast responded that Argentina does not have and will never have control or sovereignty over the Strait of Magellan.
